City leaders sign landmark agreement for Skagit dams’ next 50 years
5/12/202638:24

Mayor Katie Wilson signed a landmark multi-party agreement to develop a Comprehensive Settlement Agreement for the Skagit Hydroelectric Project alongside leaders from Treaty Tribes, federal and state agencies, local jurisdictions, and nonprofit organizations. The project’s three dams provide about 20% of Seattle’s electricity and operate under a license from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The agreement establishes a collaborative framework for the project’s next 50-year license and was developed in partnership with Tribal governments, regulatory agencies, environmental groups, and community organizations. Implementation over the life of the license is expected to cost about $4 billion.
